He swapped into the outfit from his 2010 X Factor audition mid-show and sang the Stevie Wonder song that got him through to the next round at 16.
Harry Styles opened his Harryween show at Madison Square Garden on Friday, Oct. 30, dressed as Elvis Presley in the King's signature white pantsuit, with a satin-lined cape and gold sunglasses. It was the penultimate concert of his 30-night residency at the venue.
The musicians and dancers accompanying Styles were dressed as assorted takes on him spanning his whole career. Presley's granddaughter, actress Riley Keough, cheered him on during the set and was seen filming it on her phone beside Styles' fiancée, Zoë Kravitz, who was dressed as a devil.
The swap came mid-show. Styles put on the look from his 2010 X Factor audition and sang the Stevie Wonder song Isn't She Lovely, which had carried him into the next round when he was 16.
The song was not his first pick. Footage the show released in 2022 revealed that he opened with Train's Hey, Soul Sister, and sang the Wonder song a cappella only after Simon Cowell asked to hear him without a backing track. He was later placed in One Direction with Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and the late Liam Payne. This month he premiered *What Is Enough* at that same venue, a track composed for Payne, performing it on the second anniversary of Payne's death.
Billboard ties the bakery line in the set to a part-time job he held in his Cheshire hometown of Holmes Chapel. During the performance, Styles told the MSG crowd the line he had given the X Factor judges during his audition:
"I work in a bakery"
Costumed covers are a Harryween tradition. Back at the 2021 Harryween at Madison Square Garden, Styles came out as Dorothy for a rendition of Over the Rainbow; the following evening he appeared as a clown and performed Britney Spears' Toxic. In 2022, at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, he dressed as Danny Zuko from Grease for Hopelessly Devoted to You.
Earlier in the week, at the final non-Harryween concert of the Together, Together residency on Wednesday, Oct. 28, Styles performed Ever Since New York for the first time in four years. Harryween also came on the heels of the music video for *Coming Up Roses*, released on Oct. 26, in which he waltzes through a number of dance partners in an old-fashioned dance hall.
Ticketmaster presale sign-ups for the MSG run reached a record 11.5 million. The residency closes with one more Harryween show on Saturday, Oct. 31.
