The single opens his upcoming EP, Long Live, The Mayor!, a decade after his debut, Eleko.

Nigerian singer-songwriter Mayorkun has released a new single, Home Training, along with an official music video. The track was produced by his long-time collaborator Fresh VDM, and it is the first look at his upcoming EP, Long Live, The Mayor!

The release came out on 30 October and coincides with a milestone: 10 years in music. His music career started in 2016 with the debut single Eleko. The official video was directed by Oluwaferanmi Olonade, also known as Mor.

According to Mayorkun, the track deals with a type of love that draws out another version of a person. At times, he explains, a person needs to decide when to conduct themselves well and when to drop the way they were brought up. The name is a wordplay on a well-known Nigerian expression referring to the etiquette and principles instilled in the home. GhanaMotion calls it a playful new love song.

Pulse Nigeria's New Music Friday list describes the single as an upbeat, energetic groove with the catchy songwriting Mayorkun is known for. Its verdict is that the song is nothing spectacular but very enjoyable, and that it sets the EP up well.

His earlier release Kaluba is set to close the project. Announcing the EP expands the anniversary into a bigger promotional push.

The single follows a busy stretch. Not long ago he guested on Bumpy Ride, the 10th song on Harmonize's 14-track album, and prior to that he had released Kaluba. These activities have kept his profile high in the run-up to the EP.

He started out under Davido's DMW label, and went on to release the albums The Mayor of Lagos in 2018 and Back in Office in 2021. He has kept up a steady run of melodic Afrobeats singles.

Long Live, The Mayor! is due on November 30.
