Mikel Arteta is concerned about the quad injury, but Declan Rice's 82nd-minute equaliser salvaged a point.
Bukayo Saka was substituted after 10 minutes of Arsenal's 2-2 Champions League draw at Bayern Munich on Wednesday, and Mikel Arteta is worried about the quad injury that caused it. The England winger went down while attempting a pass and walked off slowly after treatment. Eberechi Eze came on for him and went on to score Arsenal's opening goal.
Arteta did not try to hide his concern. "It doesn't look good at all but we have to wait and see," he said. Speaking to TNT Sports, the Arsenal manager said the medical staff were "a bit concerned", adding that a player who has to come off with sharp pain "is never good news".
Saka has had fitness problems in recent months. An Achilles injury he picked up in March meant his game time was managed at the end of last season and at the World Cup with England. This season he has four goals in 11 appearances in all competitions.
The first two goals came quickly. Eze fired a first-time volley past Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer, and the goal was given by VAR after it was first ruled offside. Alphonso Davies levelled soon after, set up by Bayern striker Harry Kane, who then put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot. Declan Rice equalised in the 82nd minute to salvage a point.
Arteta said Arsenal had prepared to win. "We take it, although that doesn't mean we are really happy about it as we prepared to win," he said. He also praised the team's composure:
"The team showed incredible composure, the spirit to keep going, to attack them."
Arteta singled out Eze, who came off the bench to score: "I think Ebs [Eze] had a great game. Not only the ball, but the actions. His overall performance, I think his commitment without the ball as well," he said.
Noni Madueke, who had started on the left, switched to the right after Saka went off and looked bright. Champions League Match of the Day pundit Nedum Onuoha said Arsenal's options were not going to be an issue: "they will miss the star power that he has, they still have plenty of other wide players who can step up and do the job while they wait for him to come back."
Christos Tzolis, a summer signing, is currently out with a hamstring injury.
