Disney will re-release Christopher Nolan's 2006 thriller The Prestige on Jan. 29, 2027, and it will play on 70mm and Imax screens for the first time.

The re-release marks the film's 20th anniversary, and the studio is hoping to tap into the buzz around Nolan following the historic run of The Odyssey.

The Prestige was originally released on Oct. 20, 2006. Disney released it in the US and Canada through its Touchstone Pictures label, which TheWrap describes as now defunct, while Warner Bros. handled the overseas release. Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman star as two stage magicians whose feud over a teleportation trick takes a violent turn. Variety notes the film was nominated for two Oscars. TheWrap describes its original box office run as modest, against a $40 million budget.

Nolan said in a statement: "I'm very excited to bring 'The Prestige' back to the big screen, and particularly thrilled to offer audiences the chance to see it on 70mm film, and on Imax for the first time."

Nolan used Imax cameras for the first time on The Prestige, to test whether he could use them on The Dark Knight and have the footage properly transferred onto 35mm film for wide release, TheWrap reports.

Twenty years later, Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema made The Odyssey the first film shot entirely with Imax cameras, with help from longtime Imax collaborators David and Patricia Keighley. Variety says Nolan has revolutionized premium formats through blockbusters like Oppenheimer and The Odyssey, and calls him the biggest directing draw of his generation.

Deadline calls The Odyssey Universal's highest-grossing film of all time, and says it has set records for both the director and the studio, with $625 million domestically. Deadline puts its worldwide gross at nearly $1.9 billion, while Variety and TheWrap put the total closer to $1.8 billion. Nolan won the first Oscars of his career for Oppenheimer, including best director and best picture, and is back in the awards race with The Odyssey.

The Prestige returns to theaters on Jan. 29, 2027.
