Liverpool Football Club have released a new biography of former Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who died aged 28 in July 2025. Reach Sport published Forever in Our Hearts, a book penned by José Delgado, a Portuguese writer who once played professional football.
The club announced the release in a post on its X account on Thursday.
The club says all of its profits from the book will fund a grassroots football programme being established in Jota's name through the LFC Foundation.
The book draws on interviews with family, friends, teammates and coaches. Contributors include his wife, Rute Cardoso, his parents, Isabel and Joaquim, and former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, along with more than 90 others who knew him closely.
Jota and his brother, André Silva, were killed when their hired Lamborghini crashed on a motorway in Spain. They were driving back to catch a ferry to the UK. It happened just 11 days after Jota married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso.
Klopp recalls watching a Wolves match when he decided he wanted to sign Jota. "I immediately thought: 'I want this player'."
Klopp, who is 58, said he knows people die, but the news of Jota's accident left him in shock. He said he has still not really come to terms with it.
Klopp said he found it hard to speak about Jota for the book, even though he had agreed to contribute:
"I've spent most of my life talking, but now I'm just hanging by a thread, lost for words - which is not at all normal."
The book also includes Rute's account of the day she learned of the deaths. She tried to reach the brothers, whose messages were not delivered, and the hotel said they had not yet arrived. She recalls telling a friend: "This is a joke, it can't be true. There's no way in the world this can be true!"
Delgado said the book was an attempt to preserve Jota's memory. "My commitment throughout was to tell his story with care, honesty and respect for Diogo, André, and the family and friends who loved them," he said. Delgado went on to say that the kindness of people who contributed recollections helped make the brothers' characters come alive.
The book costs £22 from Reach Sport and is available through official Liverpool FC stores and online.
Liverpool set up a lasting memorial outside Anfield earlier in 2026, giving supporters somewhere to remember the brothers.
