The Islamic wedding follows their civil ceremony in Malta in September, and a big celebration is set for November 1.
The Nigerian singer Damilola Afolabi, better known as L.A.X, and his spouse, Ella, had their Nikkah on the night of Thursday, October 29. The Nikkah is the Islamic ceremony that formalises a marriage.
L.A.X began making music as a rapper in secondary school, where he formed a group called Flyboiz before going solo. It was in 2013, with Caro, a Wizkid collaboration issued under Starboy Entertainment, that he rose to prominence. The track was up for Hottest Single of the Year during the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. He later worked with Wizkid again on Ginger, and he also later founded his record label, Rasaki Music.
Events moved from an opening prayer and guest introductions through Qur'an recitation and thanksgiving, then a naming ceremony, the Nikkah itself, blessings, and ending with a closing prayer. Donations to the mosque were part of the programme too.
Punch reports that the naming ceremony raised questions about its purpose, including whether it was linked to a possible conversion to Islam, but there is no confirmation that Ella converted.
The couple held a civil wedding on September 16, 2026, in Naxxar, Malta, and announced it on Instagram that month. In that announcement, L.A.X wrote:
"Legally hitched to the love of my life, in the most beautiful city, Malta, you have our hearts."
The proposal came on January 16, 2026, in an outdoor setting decorated with flowers and the initials D and E. In his engagement post, L.A.X shared moments from their relationship, including their travels together and the date they began dating, May 2022.
The couple held their traditional introduction in Warri, Delta State, Ella's hometown, in June. For the Malta ceremony, they chose an intimate celebration with family and close friends. They exchanged vows, then came into the reception with a lively entrance, dancing while guests cheered them on.
In an Instagram post, the couple showcased Ijaw-themed traditional looks that celebrate their heritage. Their big celebration is set for November 1.
