James Gunn says the DCU Batman is not cast yet, the pick is not far away, and Batman and Superman are roughly the same age.

Gunn says he wants the best actor for the part, and that Batman and Superman are roughly the same age.

DC Studios co-chief James Gunn says the DCU Batman has not been cast yet, and that the choice "isn't very far away". In an advance video from a podcast, he said: "It won't be too long before we're casting Batman. We haven't cast yet, by the way." He also dismissed speculation about who might already be playing the part.

Steve Agee, The Suicide Squad actor, appeared in the clip with Gunn and his wife, Jennifer Holland. Agee asked whether Gunn had to think about a Batman actor's age, considering "they're going to be doing this 10 years from now". Gunn replied "definitely."

"People are always looking for little hints about the casting of Batman," Gunn said. "Roughly, Batman and Superman are around the same age. I don't think they're drastically different ages. They're future best pals, contemporaries."

David Corenswet, who plays Superman, is 33. Variety reads that as making a Batman in his mid-30s likely, though Gunn did not give an age.

Gunn set out how he wants to pick the actor, and how that differs from how Batmen have been chosen in the past:

"One of the things that excites me about casting Batman is being able to pick a Batman who's actually the best actor for that role. Superman's have always been chosen based on who the best actor for that role is. And for some reason, Batman's are always chosen as movie stars."

Gunn added that if he gave a performer "a day role in 'The Suicide Squad'" and that person is going to be the best Batman, he would not rule them out. "I'm not going to rule him out from that," he said.

Robert Pattinson continues as Batman in director Matt Reeves' series. *The Batman Part II* is currently filming for a planned 2028 release in theaters. EW reports Gunn made clear that those films and the spinoff The Penguin remain separate from the connectivity of the DCU.

Earlier screen Batmen include Michael Keaton, while George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck also took the role.

The DCU has shown Batman in animated form in Creature Commandos, and the penultimate episode, Priyatel Skelet, gave a brief first look at what the DCU Batman could be like. This month's *Clayface* movie took the DCU to Gotham City.

The Brave and the Bold, based on Grant Morrison's Batman run, is set to introduce the DCU Batman and the Bat-family, separate from Pattinson's films. Andy Muschietti, who made The Flash, is currently attached to helm it.
