Isak's sixth league goal of the season, his third in three straight games, lifts Liverpool into fourth.

Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday, and Sweden striker Alexander Isak scored for a third straight Premier League game. The win moved Liverpool up to fourth, and it was the first Premier League home win under Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola. It was also their fourth win in a row in all competitions.

Storm Boelo raged outside the ground, but the game went ahead. The first goal came in the 17th minute, when a shot from Liverpool playmaker Florian Wirtz was deflected off Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross. The goal was officially credited as an own goal.

Four minutes later, summer signing Bradley Barcola cut the ball back from the right and Isak finished. It was his sixth Premier League goal of the season and his third in three straight league games, something he had not done since January 2025. Only Erling Haaland, on nine, has scored more Premier League goals this season. Isak has scored six of Liverpool's 11.

Isak signed from Newcastle in August 2025 for a British record £125m. A slow start and a broken leg in December left him with four goals in 22 games in his first season at the club. This season has gone another way.

Isak spoke about the performance:

"Today, the performance was really good against a really good team."

Brighton came in with four successive league wins and 23 goals from their first seven games. They had 64 per cent of the possession but only one shot on target. Yasin Ayari blazed a glorious chance over the bar early on, and later hit the post with a effort from outside the box. It was only Brighton's second loss of the season and their first since August.

Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler said: "It was a missed opportunity." He added: "We made two easy mistakes to give them a present to score two goals."

Opta figures show Liverpool had only 35.6 per cent of the ball, their second-lowest share on record in a Premier League home win since 2003-04.

Iraola said: "It is a very valuable win. The key was how we started." He told Sky Sports: "This is the fourth win in a row, it feels good."

Wirtz came off in the 64th minute after twisting his ankle, and Trey Nyoni replaced him. Wirtz said: "I think it will be alright, it's not too bad." Iraola said: "It doesn't look very big but we're playing every three days so we have to see what it is."

Liverpool came into the match off a 4-3 win over Villarreal in the Champions League in midweek, and a 2-1 win over Brentford last weekend.

Liverpool's next league game is against Arsenal.
