Daniel died in June 2018 at just 13 months old.

Nigerian music star D'banj has written a tribute to his son Daniel, eight years after the boy died at 13 months old.

Daniel reportedly drowned in a swimming pool at the family's home in Ikoyi, Lagos. D'banj was said to be away at a musical award in Los Angeles when it happened.

In the post, D'banj wrote "I miss you Daniel D3rd my son" and said he could not imagine how the boy's mother felt. He called Daniel "our family's star boy".

He asked his son to pass on a message to Uncle Femi: "Say hi to your Uncle Femi; tell him I miss him too."

The post also thanked his son for what he had shown him about life:

"Thank you for showing me what life really is as a whole."

He said he and the rest of the family were in a safe space, and that he was sure Daniel was proud of them. Pulse Nigeria reports that he has spoken before about how his faith helped him cope with the loss.

The singer has also spoken about the loss in public before. At an end-of-year party for a real estate company in December 2018, he said: "You all know what happened to me recently when I lost my son; it was really a tough time for me." He credited his fans with helping him through it: "It was because of you, my fans."

D'banj and his wife, Lineo Didi Kilgrow, married in June 2016 and welcomed Daniel in May 2017. Pulse Nigeria reports that the couple has since had two more children, a son and a daughter.
