Pratt says there have been 'ongoing conversations' with Marvel about the character's return, but he is not saying when it will happen.

Chris Pratt says Star-Lord is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that the studio has already gone beyond talk. In an interview with The Playlist for The Bingeworthy podcast, published on October 21, Pratt said there have been "ongoing conversations" about the return, as well as "hard action taken" to make it happen.

Variety reports that Pratt has played Star-Lord across six films. The last of them, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, ended with a post-credits tag that made clear "The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return." That was three years ago. Pratt was promoting the second season of The Terminal List, which premiered on Prime Video on October 21.

Asked about Star-Lord's future on the podcast, Pratt said:

"So yeah, you'll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting, but I'm not at liberty to say when that's going to be, but he's not going anywhere."

Pratt has pitched Marvel before. Months earlier, he admitted he had pitched the studio an idea for the character. Asked whether he had made that pitch to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, he said yes. "And also, I have a pretty strong idea of how I think I could contribute to that," he added.

Avengers: Doomsday, the next film in the MCU, hits theaters on December 18. Dark Horizons reports that neither Pratt nor any of the other Guardians is expected to appear in it, and that a Secret Wars appearance seems a good bet. The Playlist also suggests Avengers: Secret Wars and the feature film Nova, which will focus on the character Richard Rider, could be routes back for Star-Lord.

IGN notes that director James Gunn has been open about having no plans for another Guardians of the Galaxy film, especially now that he heads DC Studios. The phrase "The Legendary Star-Lord" is also the name of a short-lived comic run written by Sam Humphries, released in 2015, which followed Quill after he left the Guardians.

Marvel Studios declined to comment, according to TheWrap.
