Puck reports the rapper chose himself for the February 14, 2027 show at SoFi Stadium, but the NFL and Roc Nation have not announced it.
Jay-Z has reportedly picked himself to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show. Puck reported early on Tuesday, October 20, that sources tell it he chose himself for the game on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Neither the NFL nor Roc Nation, the company Jay-Z founded, has officially announced the booking.
Deadline reported that a music industry insider had confirmed Jay-Z as the planned headliner. The NFL did not respond to its request for comment on Tuesday.
Jay-Z has served as the NFL's live music entertainment strategist through Roc Nation since 2019. The partnership was renewed in 2024 for another five years, and it reportedly pays $5 million a year. Roc Nation curates and produces the halftime show.
Puck also said Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus were considered. Billboard noted that, if the report holds, it would be Jay-Z's first time on the Super Bowl stage.
Asked in a January 2024 interview whether he might one day select himself for the halftime show, Jay-Z answered:
"I thought it would be too selfish to pick myself. Maybe one year. Maybe."
When the NFL partnership began in 2019, Jay-Z reportedly told commissioner Roger Goodell: "If this is about me performing at the Super Bowl, then we can just end this conversation now."
The last halftime show was headlined by Bad Bunny, which drew 128.8 million viewers. That was down slightly from the record-setting 133 million that Kendrick Lamar drew in 2025.
Jay-Z is due at SoFi on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24, as part of his Jay-Z 30 Tour. Puck's Dave Brooks noted that Jay-Z could make the announcement this weekend, when he plays those shows at the venue that will host the game.
The game itself is set for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium.
