Tems had the opportunity of a lifetime to be one of the attendees at this year’s Oscars. She got the invite through her songwriting contribution in Lift Me Up present in the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Music From and Inspired By soundtrack.
Although she ended up not winning, something else about Tems caught the headlines for both good and wrong reasons.
The Good
Tems stepped on the red carpet in a stunning sleeveless all-white dress.
The flawless shot, the bewitching pose, the gorgeous make-up, and Tems’ alluring aura made the news for impressive reasons. The writeups online are proof of how gorgeous the outfit turned out to be.
The Bad (Trolls)
The Dolby Theatre was filled with the crème de la crème of the entertainment industry, then the Oscars 2023 started. Everything seemed to be going fine until Tems was spotted in her seat with her attention-grabbing outfit. While on the red carpet, praisers were oblivious to the parachuting peacock veil-like headgear which later turned into an object of criticism for the singer.
The cloudlike veil distracted other attendees from enjoying the event, especially those who sat behind Tems and could not get a clear view of what was going on on the stage. As much as we would expect fellow attendees not to bash Tems’ distracting outfit, we trust the Nigerian Twitter community not to hold back their trolling drafts.
Tems did not receive the backlash alone, the designers also received stray shots from the online trolls.
The Constructive Criticism
Of what good will it make for the backlash to circulate the air while no one comes up with practical advice to curb such from happening in the future? Well, some thought about that and gave their honest think pieces on the good-inconsiderate Tems’ outfit occurrence.
