The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 + will only provide updates on security quarterly from now on.
It ensures that the patches will be packaged and released every three months, instead of receiving a new security patch every month. The S8 duo has been released in April 2017 and is now three years old. It was originally running Android 7.0 Nougat and has been upgraded to Android 9 Pie with One UI (the original version) since.
The upgrade to Android 10 isn’t coming.
In contrast, last month Samsung ended support for the 2016 Galaxy S7 duo, after spending two years on the quarterly schedule having monthly updates and 2 years. Initially, Samsung planned to end support for the S7 phones a year ago but reconsidered it and proceeded to push updates for another 10 months. So, you should continue to receive support for your Galaxy S8 or S8 + at least until 2021.
