Ahead of the Premier League restart in a fortnight, one positive coronavirus case has been confirmed from Tottenham for the latest round of Premier League testing. With over 1,197 players and staff analyzed overall ahead of the restart in two weeks, the Premier League has confirmed that there was one positive case for coronavirus in their fifth round of testing.
The previous round of testing means brought back negative cases which means just one person has contracted the virus since last week.
The lack of any spread of the virus among clubs, though, will be seen as a boost for the Premier League as they prepare for the Project Restart.
An announcement on the fixture list for the remaining 92 matches is expected imminently as teams continue to prepare to get back out on the pitch.
Confirming the report of the positive testing, a statement from Spurs read: “They are currently asymptomatic and will now self-isolate for seven days.
“Due to medical confidentiality, the individual’s name will not be disclosed
“We shall continue to strictly adhere to the Premier League’s Return to Training protocol, which ensures our Training Centre remains a safe and virus-free working environment.”
Due to medical confidentiality, the Premier League did not name Tottenham, the club themselves chose to reveal they were behind the positive test.
The Premier League’s statement read: “The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency.
Previous test results
Round 1: 17-18 May – 748 tested, with six positive tests from three clubs
Round 2: 19-22 May – 996 tested, with two positive tests from two clubs.
Round 3: 25-26 May – 1,008 tested, with four positive tests from two clubs.
Round 4: 28-29 May – 1,130 tested, with zero positive cases.
