Nigeria trailed 3-1 before Adams struck in stoppage time, in a friendly played without several regulars.

Akor Adams scored in stoppage time to rescue a 3-3 draw for the Super Eagles against Russia at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Tuesday, after Nigeria had been trailing 3-1.

Kelechi Iheanacho gave Nigeria the lead in the 10th minute. Lechi Sadulaev equalised for Russia in the 30th, and Matvey Kislyak put the hosts ahead in first-half stoppage time, so they went into the break 2-1 up. Alexey Miranchuk made it 3-1 in the 54th minute.

Nigeria came back in the closing stages. Peter Edokpolor reduced the deficit in the 78th minute. Adams then finished a counter-attack started by Emmanuel Fernandez and set up by Umar Abdullahi, in the fourth minute of stoppage time, to make it 3-3.

The Super Eagles entered the match after a 3-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The Nigeria Football Federation said the situation had "seriously weakened" the squad ahead of the friendly. Captain Wilfred Ndidi was among the regulars missing, and several players withdrew or were prevented from joining because of injuries and club restrictions.

Russia had come into the match on the back of a 6-0 win over Namibia in their previous friendly. Nigeria remain unbeaten against Russia, having drawn 1-1 in Moscow in June 2025.

The Super Eagles will be back in action in November for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
