Fulham's Calvin Bassey is in the final months of his contract, with Man United, Newcastle, Everton, Inter Milan, Dortmund and Leipzig reportedly interested.

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey as they look to strengthen their central defence. Punch, drawing on TEAMtalk, reports that United have come away impressed with Bassey's displays for Fulham this season. Punch places the interest ahead of the January window, while Legit ties it to a defensive overhaul ahead of the 2027 season.

Despite a difficult season at Craven Cottage, Bassey has reportedly been one of Fulham's most consistent players and has been handed the captain's armband at points.

United's defence has been under strain. They conceded seven goals in their last two competitive matches, a 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League and a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth in the Premier League. Legit reports that the Bournemouth defeat left United one point above the relegation zone. Manager Michael Carrick faces questions over the long-term options available to him.

Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven are still developing. Punch says Harry Maguire turns 34 in March and is in the final year of his contract, Lisandro Martinez is approaching the final year of his deal, and Matthijs de Ligt has only recently returned from a lengthy injury absence. Legit says Martinez, Maguire and Luke Shaw are all set to become free agents at the end of the season. The Times, as cited by ESPN, says United will also target a new left back and striker after injuries to Shaw, Patrick Dorgu and Benjamin Sesko.

Bassey's contract situation could present interested clubs with an opportunity to negotiate a reduced transfer fee. It expires at the end of the season, and Fulham can extend it by another 12 months, but would rather lock him in on new terms. Legit notes that he can play as both a centre-back and a left-back.

The interest is not limited to United. Everton and Newcastle United are also reportedly monitoring the Nigerian international, and Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are said to be interested too.

United's defensive plans could also change with Martinez. TEAMtalk reports that he is prepared to leave Old Trafford, with Barcelona having already made an enquiry. ESPN reports that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will fight for Lisandro Martinez's signature, as he is set to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, while AS claims he has no future at United and could depart in January if clubs are willing to pay a small fee.
