Forest are in the relegation zone and still waiting for their first home league goal of the season, while Arsenal move to within three points of Manchester City.

Arsenal winger Noni Madueke scored the only goal as the champions beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground on Sunday. Brought on at half-time, he cut inside from the left in the 80th minute and shot. The ball deflected off Jair Cunha and flew past goalkeeper Matz Sels.

Arsenal had struggled before that. Neither side had a shot on target in the first half, and the goal was Arsenal's only shot on target of the match. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports it was "tough to generate open chances against them."

Forest had their moments. Forest defender Murillo curled a shot narrowly wide in added time, and Ezri Konsa made a late challenge to deny Liam Delap. Earlier, midfielder Declan Rice had blocked a shot from Chris Wood.

Forest manager Oliver Glasner told Sky Sports: "But it's another defeat and another game when we couldn't score at the City Ground." Forest have yet to score in any of their home Premier League matches this campaign.

Eberechi Eze was taken off at half-time, and Roy Keane said on Sky Sports: "We're still waiting for him, the talent is there."

Madueke, who replaced Eze, said what the win showed about the squad:

"We showed a champion spirit."

BBC Sport named him player of the match. Arsenal are up to 18 points, three behind leaders Manchester City.

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina watched the whole game from the bench. He has made five appearances for Forest this season and has picked up three yellow cards.

Forest are in the relegation zone with five points, and they are still waiting for their first home league goal of the season.
