Sources tell Variety the 'Brat' singer appears alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, and her role is being kept under wraps.
Charli XCX has a cameo in Martin Scorsese's next film, What Happens at Night. Sources tell Variety, and TheWrap says it has learned that the pop star has joined the cast.
The film already had Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in its cast, along with Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson and Jared Harris. It is an Apple and StudioCanal production, based on the 2020 novel of the same name by Peter Cameron. Variety describes it as a Gothic psychological drama, and TheWrap as a Gothic psychological horror feature.
The plot centres on a married couple from America who head for a little town in Europe to adopt an infant. As they struggle to claim their child, Variety says, the less they seem to know about themselves. Rolling Stone adds that the couple are confronted by a cast of peculiar hotel guests.
Charli's part is a cameo rather than a main role. Variety says it is being kept under wraps. TheWrap says it is a cameo rather than a main role, and that it is unclear what the role will be beyond that. Representatives for Charli, Apple and StudioCanal had not immediately responded to Variety's request for comment.
Charli has been busy on screen. Variety counts seven movies over the past two years, including The Moment, a mockumentary directed by her frequent collaborator Aidan Zamiri that satirized the commercial success she had with Brat. TheWrap counts four films in 2026 alone.
Scorsese is also tied to her latest album, Music, Fashion, Film, released in July. Its black-and-white cover shows John Cale, Marc Jacobs and Scorsese sitting together in a kitchen. Cale told Rolling Stone how he ended up on it: "Next thing, I was on a flight. Ended up in a random kitchen."
Charli is wrapping up her tour for the album in the U.S. Variety reports that the final show of that leg is in Las Vegas on Friday, before she heads to Europe in February.
What Happens at Night is Scorsese's follow-up to Killers of the Flower Moon, the 2023 film that also starred DiCaprio and was nominated for 10 Oscars, including best picture. Scorsese will direct and produce for Sikelia Productions, while DiCaprio, Lawrence and Daniel Lupi also serve as producers, according to TheWrap. Variety says a release date has not yet been set.
