Aguilera sang her 2002 hit 'Beautiful' and joined Roan on 'Coffee' on the first night of a benefit for Roan's Midwest Princess Project.

Christina Aguilera made a surprise appearance on the first night of Chappell Roan's Super Graphic Spectacular, a benefit concert at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Oct. 21. About midway through Roan's set, Aguilera came out and belted her 2002 hit 'Beautiful' before joining Roan on 'Coffee', a Midwest Princess track.

Before Aguilera walked out, Roan introduced her from the stage as someone who had paved the way for her and for all women in pop, and said she was grateful to have her. After the two hugged and Aguilera took the mic, she praised the younger singer:

"From the moment I heard Chappell's voice, I knew she was a force to be reckoned with."

Aguilera sang 'Beautiful' as Roan looked on. The pair then sang 'Coffee', which Aguilera described as "one of my favorite songs of hers". Roan fumbled the opening line at first, drawing a laugh from Aguilera, then recovered, traded verses with her and joined her on the harmonies for the finish.

Roan's set ran 75 minutes, according to Variety's review, and her all-female band served as the house band for everyone except the drag artists. Roan also performed Olivia Rodrigo's 'Expectations', a song the two released a remix of last week. Variety noted that Roan turned it into a solo number for herself, and that Rodrigo had drafted Roan to write a new verse for the remix and video. Lola Young and Tinashe were among the openers, with Amanda Lepore, Blaine Petrovia and Kyra Jeté also on the bill. Young sang at least three songs, ending with 'Messy', and Tinashe performed two numbers from her new album, per Variety.

The show was a benefit, and all proceeds go to Roan's Midwest Princess Project, which supports trans youth and LGBTQ+ communities. The project has raised more than $800,000 to date for over 60 organizations. The Super Graphic Spectacular concludes on Thursday, Oct. 22, with Roan headlining again.
