Bruno Guimarães scores his first goal at the Emirates Stadium, a substitute's winner that lifts Arsenal level on 15 points with Manchester City.

Arsenal came from behind to beat Leeds United 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, October 10, with Bruno Guimarães scoring the winner from the bench. The win lifted Arsenal onto 15 points, level with Manchester City at the top of the table, though City are ahead on goal difference. Leeds, unbeaten before the game, lost their first Premier League match of the season.

The first half was slow and goalless. Arsenal had not played at the Emirates for 34 days, after four away games and a three-week international break, and they had lost 3-0 at Brighton & Hove Albion before the break. Yahoo Sports' match report said Leeds manager Daniel Farke went in at half-time the happier of the two managers.

Leeds went ahead early in the second half. Leeds left midfielder Gabriel Gudmundsson's low cross reached defender James Justin, who struck first time past Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.

Arsenal were level in the 62nd minute. Noni Madueke's deep cross was nodded back by Arsenal defender Ben White, and left-back Riccardo Calafiori's shot along the ground was too tricky for Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford, who fumbled it and saw it spin into the net. It was Calafiori's first league goal since August 2025.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who signed a new contract this week, made three changes straight after the equaliser, bringing on Jurriën Timber, Viktor Gyökeres and Guimarães. The move that followed started with Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka. Midfielder Declan Rice's backheel redirected the ball to the edge of the area, and Guimarães tucked it into the bottom corner in the 70th minute.

It was his first goal at the Emirates Stadium. Both of his Premier League goals this season have come from outside the box as a substitute, and Arsenal.com notes that he is the first player to score twice from the bench this season.

Arsenal could have added a third. Trafford denied Saka one-on-one late on, and Gyökeres also failed to add a goal, Yahoo Sports reported. ESPN's data gives Arsenal 2.58 expected goals to Leeds' 0.68, with Arsenal on 58% possession.

Asked whether dropping points was frustrating, Justin replied: "Obviously disappointed which in the grand scheme of things is a good thing."

Guimarães was asked how it felt to score his first home goal with a comeback winner. "Feels unbelievable." He added: "I'm very happy to score my first goal here."

Arteta said after the match that Arsenal wanted to put right what went wrong against Brighton. He put it this way:

"We wanted to prove we are something special and unique."

Arsenal host Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday, then travel to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, October 18. The trip to Bayern Munich on Wednesday, October 21 comes after that, according to Arsenal.com.
