Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos” spends 67 on the Billboard World Album chart, a new record

The grand crossover record-setting Soul-Afropop album by Nigerian music maestro Wizkid titled, Made in Lagos, has achieved a feat no other album by an African act has been able to accomplish. The feat? Made in Lagos is the first African album on the Billboard World Album chart to spend 67 weeks.

Made in Lagos was released on 30 October 2020, it peaked at No.1 on the Billboard World Album chart after debuting at the second spot; as of September 7, 2021, the album peaked at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 200. Made in Lagos also provided the trendy chart-topping single, “Essence”, which birthed a remix featuring Justin Bieber to eventually becoming the first single by an African act to make an entry into the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10, peaking at No. 9. All records in their respective field!

Now, Wizkid’s Made in Lagos beats the 27-year-old record set by Cape Verdean Cesária Évora’s 1995 “Cesária” album which previously held a mind-blowing African record of 66 weeks to becoming the longest-charting album on the Billboard World Album chart, 67 weeks and counting.
