The US Mission says talks covered studios, record labels, streaming platforms and intellectual property, but no deal was announced.
United States Consul General Brandon Hudspeth welcomed Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy to the U.S. Consulate in Lagos on Friday, October 16, 2026, for talks on widening collaboration between the American and Nigerian creative industries.
The US Mission in Nigeria announced the meeting in a post, saying it focused on turning the cultural ties between the two countries into economic opportunities.
According to the mission, the discussions covered commercial ties between studios, record labels and streaming platforms in both countries. They also touched on stronger protection of intellectual property, artist and industry exchanges, and investment in creative infrastructure.
Photos released by the mission show Burna Boy alongside Hudspeth inside the consular premises. Burna Boy, known by his real name Damini Ogulu, won the Grammy for Best Global Music Album in 2021 with Twice As Tall.
