The Pixar sequel was the most-watched film on Disney+ through its opening week, the studio said.

Toy Story 5 drew 20 million views worldwide in its first five days on Disney+, making it the most-watched film on the platform for the week. The fifth instalment in the Pixar franchise began streaming on 23 September, according to figures Disney released on Sunday.

The debut puts the Andrew Stanton-directed sequel among the top 10 theatrical film premieres on Disney+ to date. It is the fourth-biggest Disney-branded premiere on the service, behind Inside Out 2 (30.5 million views in 2024), Moana 2 (27.3 million) and Elemental (26.4 million in 2023).

The wider Toy Story franchise remains Disney+'s most-watched film franchise, with more than 2 billion hours streamed globally, per the studio. Disney said the original film gained another 168 million hours of viewing since the Toy Story 5 teaser trailer landed.

In theatres, Toy Story 5 passed the $1 billion mark worldwide in July and stands as Disney's highest-grossing film of the year so far.

Stanton, who won an Oscar for WALL-E, directs alongside co-director Kenna Harris. The cast reunites Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz and Joan Cusack as Jessie, with Greta Lee joining as Lilypad, a new tablet device that arrives with her own ideas about what is best for their kid Bonnie.

Disney+ has leaned hard on its animated franchises, and the platform is also home to a sixth *Ice Age* instalment.

Toy Story 5 is streaming now on Disney+.
