Tems creates record as the first Nigerian to ever be nominated for the Oscars

Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has created a record so huge that even fellow entertainers that do not belong to her music field envy; Tems becomes the first Nigerian personality to be nominated for the Oscars awards

The Academy Awards, the body responsible for hosting the Oscars has announced its nominees for the 95th edition of the annual event; Tems happens to be nominated in one of its 24 eligible categories.

Tems’ nomination comes as a result of her contribution to ‘Lift Me Up’ by Rihanna. Life Me Up is up for the ‘Best Original Song’ award at the 2023 Oscars. 

Lift Me Up was originally released on October 26, 2022, in tribute to the late Black Panther actor, Chadwick Boseman. It will eventually become the opening track of the ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Music From & Inspired By’ album, released on the 11th of November, 2022; the 6-minute long soulful record marked Rihanna’s first solo single in over five (5) years. 

Now, you might be wondering why Tems scored a nomination and created such an important record in Nigerian history. Well, think no more. Tems received a nod for the 2023 Oscars because she is one of the five credited songwriters of Lift Me Up

The 2023 Oscars holds on March 12, at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, United States of America, and best believe Nigerians and Africans by large will be rooting for Tems to secure the victory.
