The DCEU has officially ended following the release of Aquaman 3 in December 2023. However, DC fans have much to look forward to such as a new Supergirl!
James Gunn and Peter Safrsn continue to craft their version of the DCU. This process includes casting a new Supergirl for the previously announced Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow film. According to Deadline, DC Studios is about to commence testing actresses who will play Kara Xor-El (Supergirl) in the upcoming project. In fact, the studio has already shortlisted three actresses for testing, namely:
Milly Alcock (age 23). She is most known for her role as the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon.
Meg Donnelly (age 23). Although a lesser-known name, perhaps she starred in the Disney Channel Zombies franchise, High School Musical, and The Winchesters. She also voiced Supergirl in two DC animated movies.
Emilia Jones (age 21) She starred in Netflix’s Locke and Key and the Oscar-winning CODA.
Further, DC studios is also searching for a director and writer for the film, which is based on Tom King’s Woman of Tomorrow comic book. While announcing the Supergirl movie at a press event last year, Gunn described it as:
“In our series, we see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, and Supergirl, who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
Although it will be a while before the Supergirl film is ready to premiere. It’s likely that the DCU’s Kara Xor-El will make her debut appearance in some other project set within the universe.
