DC Studios is halfway through the casting process for the role of Supergirl.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, two actresses have emerged as finalists for the role of Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) in the DCU. They are HBO’s House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock and Disney Channel’s Zombies star Meg Donnelly. Interestingly, Donnelly has already voiced the character in multiple DC animation. Including Legion of Super-Heroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One.
Further, according to insiders, both women took part in screen tests for the role in Atlanta. James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-CEOs of DC Studios, were present. The search for Supergirl is clearly wrapping up, and we can expect a casting announcement shortly. Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) and Emilia Jones (CODA) were previously considered for the position.
Supergirl is slated to make her debut appearance in Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, which premieres in 2025. Then she’ll subsequently lead her own movie, titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. A film that is based on Tom King’s comic book miniseries that ran from 2021 – 2022.
Gunn described the DCU’s version of Supergirl as: “Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, where Supergirl in this story, she is a character raised on a chunk of Krypton.” “She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character.”
The Supergirl film does not yet have a director. However, writer and actress, Ana Nogueria has already begun composing the script. Once someone is cast as Supergirl, the project will undoubtedly begin to go forward.
