The captain left the camp in Copenhagen on Wednesday after being told he would start on the bench against Denmark, and promised to tell "the truth" about his exit.
Cristiano Ronaldo has walked out of Portugal's training camp in Copenhagen, a day before the Nations League game against Denmark. The 41-year-old captain left on Wednesday after Jorge Jesus confirmed he would not start again, three days after Ronaldo sat through Portugal's 2-1 win over Norway without getting on the pitch.
Ronaldo broke the news himself on Instagram.
"Following the national team manager's press conference, and after a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I decided to leave the national team's training camp," he wrote.
"In due course, I will tell the Portuguese people the truth about the reasons behind my departure from the national team, to which I have always been dedicated. Now is the time to wish good luck to Portugal and to all my teammates, without exception."
The falling out traces back to Sunday's 2-1 win over Norway, when Ronaldo was left on the bench for the entire match. Jesus had hinted he could come on, then changed his mind as the game played out. Goncalo Ramos scored the winner, and Jesus has said the Milan striker will start again against Denmark.
Jesus insists there is no rift. "It seems like there was an issue between us, but there was no issue," he said on Wednesday. "I'm the one who makes the decisions and everybody knows that. There was no incident whatsoever."
The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed Ronaldo had left camp, adding that preparations for Denmark and Sunday's home game against Norway would continue with the remaining 24 players. Spanish outlet Marca reported that Ronaldo boarded a private jet for Madrid.
Ronaldo and Jesus go back a way. Jesus coached him for around a year at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
Portugal's record scorer, with 146 goals in 234 appearances, has promised to give his side of the story in due course. Portugal play Denmark in Copenhagen on Thursday, with Rafael Leao set to take the No 7 shirt.
