The ruling does not say which matches the ban covers, or whether time already served counts towards it.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for 30 days and fined €255 (£215) by the Portuguese Football Federation for leaving Portugal's national team camp. The federation's disciplinary council upheld the charge against the 41-year-old and found he had committed the offence intentionally.

Goal reports the federation's code allowed a suspension of between one and six months plus a fine, and Ronaldo received the shortest.

Ronaldo, Portugal's captain, was an unused substitute throughout the 2-1 win over Norway in September. He then learned he would not start against Denmark and walked out of the squad. He has 146 goals in 234 appearances for his country, which talkSPORT says makes him the all-time top scorer and the most capped player in men's international football.

In a lengthy statement, Ronaldo said Portugal coach Jorge Jesus had twice broken his word to him. On the day of the Norway match, the coach told him he would play 30 minutes. Ronaldo accused him of an "absolute breach of trust".

Ronaldo described what happened on the day of the Norway match:

"I warmed up from half-time, watched the minutes go by, and was not called. The coach had broken his word to me."

Jesus has denied making any agreement with Ronaldo, but he has left the door open for the forward to return.

Ronaldo also accepted that he deserved punishment. "I also owe an apology to my national team teammates for having left the camp," he wrote. He apologised to supporters for not acknowledging them after the Norway match, and said he would remain available for selection once he had served any punishment.

Portuguese FA president Pedro Proença told Record there is a "strong desire" to have Ronaldo back with the national team once the matter is resolved.

The ruling does not say which matches the suspension covers, or whether the time already served under a provisional suspension will count towards it. Ronaldo was provisionally suspended on 9 October. BBC Sport reports that if the ban is backdated to that date, he would be available for Portugal's match against Denmark on 14 November. talkSPORT says the ban is likely to run from 30 September, when he left the camp, but the statement does not confirm this.

Goal reports that the ban will not keep Ronaldo out of Portugal's next two matches, including Denmark on 14 November.
