The actress says the brand is still running her face on billboards and buses without pay or consent, and she wants fans to help document the ads.
Mercy Johnson Okojie has accused Power Oil of still running her face on billboards and buses, four years after her endorsement deal with the vegetable oil brand lapsed.
In a post on her Instagram page on Monday, the actress said she personally spotted a billboard carrying her image at Nana Plaza in Wuse 2, Abuja. It has been four years since her contract with the company expired, she wrote, yet the brand keeps pushing ads with her face on them without paying or consulting her.
"Help me ask @poweroilng why? it has been years, I have not been paid or compensated for my image been used after the expiration of my contract," she wrote. "You are still pushing ads with my image on it without consulting me. Why? Please check your DMs and get back to my team. let us not play in dirty waters. Enough is Enough."
She also pointed the question at the brand's parent group, which has its roots in India.
"They have my face on billboards, buses, what have you? 4 years after my contract expired. The lawlessness. Can you do this in India, your country?" she asked.
Mercy Johnson did not disclose the terms of her original agreement or how much she believes she is owed. What she did ask for is help: she wants anyone who spots a Power Oil ad, billboard or bus carrying her face to record a video, note the date and time, and tag the brand.
The post drew quick reactions from colleagues. Yvonne Jegede wrote that this is "the only country any foreigner will come into and move mad freely," while Pere Egbi told the actress to pour paint on the billboard.
Power Oil had not publicly responded to her complaint at the time of writing.
