In a new Marie Claire cover story, the rapper says she's not looking for another relationship 'for a long time' after ending things with the NBA star in April.
Megan Thee Stallion has spoken for the first time about the end of her relationship with NBA star Klay Thompson, describing the split as "abrupt" and admitting she is still in shock months on.
In a cover story with Marie Claire published on Tuesday (Sept. 29), the 31-year-old rapper gave her most candid account yet of the breakup she announced in April with a post to her Instagram Stories accusing Thompson of infidelity.
"It was so abrupt. I'm in shock still," she told the magazine. "I'm not pretending I'm 100% okay. I ain't never been through nothing like that in my whole life. I've never, ever, ever been in a relationship like that, ever. So I'm definitely not worried about another one for a long time."
Megan, born Megan Pete, said the relationship left her permanently on edge. "I feel like that's what I was in, constantly on edge. My nervous system needed to calm down. I feel like I was in a panic 24/7. I'm still not eating all the way right. I'm feeling all the feelings. I'm not trying to take no shortcuts."
The pair went public in July 2025 on the red carpet at her Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in New York, and dated for less than a year. In a statement at the time, she said: "Trust, fidelity and respect are nonnegotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there's no real path forward. I'm taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity."
Thompson spent most of his career with the Golden State Warriors, including the 2022 title run we covered at the time.
Since then Megan has kept moving. She is finishing Act III, the third instalment of her Megan album series, released a new track, Tina Tuesday Freestyle, on Tuesday, and was announced among the performers for the 2026 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. She has also branched into film, starring in A24's *Dicks: The Musical*.
Romance, though, is off the table. "When something is meant for you, it's gonna be easy. It's gonna be right. It's not gonna feel like a panic all the time," she said. The split, she added, taught her to trust her instincts: "No, the gut is always right. Listen."
