Mbappé's 11 goals in 11 games keep Real six points behind Barcelona before El Clásico.
France striker Kylian Mbappé scored twice as Real Madrid beat Sevilla 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday, and the second of his goals was a Panenka penalty after the break. The win keeps Real six points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.
Turkey international Arda Güler put the hosts ahead in the 30th minute. He met a lay-off from Yan Diomande first time and curled the ball towards the far corner, past goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Mbappé doubled the lead seven minutes later. ESPN called it a fine team move that he finished in style, while Goal.com has him turning between two players before beating Vlachodimos.
Mbappé was brought down inside the box after the break and took the penalty himself, going past Vlachodimos with a Panenka. His two goals on the night took his tally to 11 in 11 games in all competitions. Sevilla pulled one back through Manu Bueno at 80 minutes, after Mbappé lost possession. Real replied two minutes later, when Yan Diomande dribbled forward and fired into the top-left corner to wrap up the three points.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was pleased with how his side ran the game:
"We controlled it from the first to the last minute and scored quality goals."
Mourinho also called it a "beautiful victory" and said many players had been at a high individual level. On his line-up, he said "I have changed some things while maintaining logic," adding that "Many people deserve to play."
The victory was achieved without Vinícius Júnior, who has begun a four-match suspension, the opening match of which he is serving, for tugging at Villarreal's Nathan Saliba's hair last weekend.
Madrid return to Europe against RB Leipzig on Wednesday. Their next league game is El Clásico at Barcelona on 25 October, against leaders who have started the domestic season with nine straight wins.
