The Oscar winner boards Warner Bros. and New Line's new sci-fi thriller, which already has an Aug. 11, 2028 release date.
Jennifer Lawrence has boarded The Flood, the new sci-fi thriller from director Zach Cregger, with Warner Bros.' New Line Cinema set to release the film on Aug. 11, 2028.
Cregger will write, direct and produce the film from his own original idea. It marks his return to New Line, which released his 2025 horror Weapons, the follow-up to his 2022 breakout Barbarian. Weapons was a commercial and critical success, grossing $270 million worldwide on a budget under $40 million, and earned Amy Madigan a Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
The thriller is Cregger's next picture now that his Resident Evil film is out and a hit. Production is set to begin in Europe in the first months of 2027, with Amblin Entertainment producing alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
"Mike, Pam and the whole Warner Bros./New Line team were an absolute dream to collaborate with on 'Weapons,' and I couldn't be happier to dive in with them again. Jennifer is one of a kind, and I'm beyond excited to see her in this role," Cregger said.
Warner Bros. co-chairs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy added, "Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most gifted and compelling actors working today, and we are thrilled to have her at the center of Zach's bold and wholly original vision for 'The Flood.'"
For Lawrence, the casting adds to a busy run. The Oscar winner for Silver Linings Playbook picked up a Golden Globe nomination for the post-partum drama Die My Love and will next be seen alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's What Happens at Night. She is also attached to the Hunger Games prequel Sunrise on the Reaping.
The Flood opens in cinemas on Aug. 11, 2028.
