Warner Bros. has dated the first Game of Thrones film, directed by Owen Harris and written by Beau Willimon, for a June 2029 theatrical run.

Warner Bros. has dated the first Game of Thrones film. Aegon's Conquest will reach cinemas in June 2029, the studio has announced.

Owen Harris directs from a screenplay by Beau Willimon. Harris is already at home in Westeros, having directed several episodes of the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Willimon created Netflix's House of Cards and wrote for the Star Wars series Andor.

The film adapts George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood and centres on Aegon I Targaryen, the founder of the Targaryen dynasty. Roughly 300 years before the events of the original series, Aegon and his sister-wives Visenya and Rhaenys rode their dragons Balerion, Vhagar and Meraxes to conquer most of the Seven Kingdoms, making him the first monarch to rule from the Iron Throne.

It marks the first time Aegon the Conqueror has appeared on screen. The franchise is full of Targaryens who carry his name, from King Aegon II in House of the Dragon to the young prince "Egg" in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but the original has stayed off screen until now.

Warner Bros. first confirmed the title at CinemaCon earlier this year. No cast has been attached.

The wait will be softened by what is already in the pipeline. House of the Dragon is heading into its fourth season, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been renewed for a second, and HBO has more Game of Thrones projects in development.
