FOOTBALL WEEKEND REVIEW
Everything that happened in the world of football over the weekend in one piece.
EPL; Others win, but Liverpool woes continues…
A 3:2 loss at The Emirate on Sunday meant Liverpool are now in 10th place and 14 points behind Arsenal who sit pretty atop the Premier League table 1 point ahead of title favorite Manchester City. Their struggles in defense were worsened when Trent who has been out of form so far this season didn’t return after halftime seemingly picking up an injury in the first half. Luis Dias left the game earlier in the first half with a knee injury that will keep him out till after the world cup in Qatar.
It just keeps getting worse for Liverpool at the moment, even Jurgen Klopp seems confused in recent interviews, one can only hope they return to form and soon…
La Liga; Classico rivals hanging on…
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona grinded out 1:0 victories against Getafe and Celta Vigo respectively, with both teams slugging it out till the final whistle and victories meant that it remains tight at the top of the La Liga table with the Catalonian side level on points with the Madrid side with 22 points each having drawn one league game and winning the other seven of eight played. With the El-Classico set for Sunday, winner takes top, and the build-up could never be better!!
Serie A; Napoli keep the fire burning, Juventus lose, again!
I ciucci left it late to dismantle Cremonese 4:1 to keep their unbeaten run intact with 23 points from 7 wins and 2 draws, with second placed Atalanta playing out an exciting 2:2 draw with Udinese. The elephant in the room was AC Milan’s 2:0 victory over Juventus at the San Siro which meant Juventus has lost 2 and drawn 4 out of their 9 league games, placed 8th on the league table with 13 points from a possible 27. Max Allegri’s job seems secure at the moment, but who’s to say how much longer his employers can be patient.
Bundsesliga; the Berlin train and Der Klassiker stalemate.
The Bundesliga is NOT known for tight defences, but Union Berlin is proving otherwise so far. Yet another 1:0 victory over VfB Stuttgart making it their fourth clean sheet in 9 games conceding just 6 goals. The German powerhouses in Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund played at an all action 2:2 draw at the Signal Iduna Park, meaning that both teams are level on 16 points with Bayern in third place having amassed a superior goal difference.
Honorable mentions…
RIEMS 0:0 PSG, Mbappe couldn’t do it alone…
