It is the first featured guest on a Fontaines D.C. album, and Dopamine Chamber is out October 16 via XL Recordings.
Fontaines D.C. have released Where Is Gone?, a track with Rosalía, and it is out now. The song is the third release from Dopamine Chamber, the band's fifth full-length album, which is due on October 16 via XL Recordings.
The track is the first artist collaboration on a Fontaines D.C. album. James Ford produced the song, as he did the album. The band had already shared two songs from the record, Marianne and Tongue.
Frontman Grian Chatten and Rosalía take turns with lines on the ballad, set to a brooding acoustic strumming pattern that keeps rising with strings and rattling drums. On the chorus they sing together: "I remember when/They held me up against the summertime."
Carlos O'Connell, the band's guitarist, who grew up in Madrid with both Spanish and Irish cultures, said in a statement that he has been a fan of Rosalía since her debut album. He said Rosalía keeps a Spanish tradition of music alive, which he felt was akin to what the band has tried to do with Irish music.
On the record's tone, Chatten said he believed that leaving hope out and honestly reflecting the ugliness would hit harder. He added:
"This one needed to feel more like a catastrophic warning."
According to the band's press release, the album takes in the news items people see in their endless scroll, including the rise of AI, celebrity gossip, political violence, the existential threat of climate change, and the memes they spawn. Chatten said in a statement: "The album itself is a dopamine chamber," and added: "You step inside and we test these different mind or mood-altering pieces of music on you."
Ford worked on the record in several spots, such as London, rural England and Palermo, Italy, and it was in Palermo that Chatten assembled a homemade booth using mattresses and cushions.
The band's previous album, Romance, came out in 2024 and was Mercury Prize-nominated. Rosalía has been promoting Lux, most recently on Saturday Night Live, where she played Reliquia and Magnolias.
The band headlines arenas in the UK and Europe in October and November. Its North American headline tour starts on April 22 at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston.
