Robin Fellhauer struck just over eight seconds in, and Bayern were held to a 2-2 draw that left them second.

Augsburg were ahead within seconds of the start. Robin Fellhauer, the hosts' forward, scored just over eight seconds into the match, the fastest goal ever scored in the Bundesliga, and Bayern Munich were held to a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

The ball had been worked back toward Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after Luis Diaz kicked off. Neuer struggled to control the pass, and Fellhauer pounced on the loose ball. Fellhauer told the media: "I could have shot even faster. But the risk was too great that it would go wide." The goal was officially timed at just over eight seconds, beating the nine-second record shared by Kevin Volland and Karim Bellarabi.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl did not spare the goalkeeper. He said:

"He made a mistake, took the ball poorly, then he wanted to solve it and solved it too riskily."

Eberl went on to say the problems went beyond one player. "We made life difficult for ourselves with a series of mistakes. Manu is involved in that, but others are too." He added that Bayern had enough chances to win the game anyway.

Neuer, who is 40 and has made 604 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, is rarely caught out like this, Eberl said: "We all know, you rarely see that from Manuel Neuer."

Neuer gave his own account to Bild of the second goal, which Augsburg scored after a shot he could not hold. "It was a powerful shot that I couldn't hold on to. I parried it out wide, and then we were caught out again and he slotted it home," he said. He also said the Augsburg centre-back was able to run at Bayern unchallenged, putting much of the blame on his defence.

The draw left Bayern second on 11 points, two behind the league leaders, after Borussia Dortmund's draw with Werder Bremen had given them the chance to reclaim top spot.
