Despite previous doubts, the novel COVID-19 is capable of enduring prolonged exposure to high temperatures according to a report conducted by Professor Remi Charrel and Boris Pastorino at the University of Aix-Marseille in France. Scientists in the experiment found that usually 60 ° Celsius (140 ° F) hot temperatures used to disinfect research laboratories are ineffective against the coronavirus. Then the pathogen can only be killed for 15 minutes at a maintained temperature of 92 ° C.
Two swab cells of an African green monkey infected with the coronavirus were removed from kidney cells.
One swab was dried, while the other was used with animal protein “in order to mimic actual sample biological contamination,” the Daily Mail reports. However, when heated to 60 ° C for 1 hour, the virus remained on it at a prolonged high temperature and was repeated, suggesting that the virus could continue to persist, even after the daily disinfection in the laboratory. Apparently, the virus is effectively eliminated when disinfected at 92 ° C, but the
sensitivity of the control is compromised because its RNA is weakened in the process. And preliminary findings from a government laboratory experiment support the hypothesis, according to a survey, that warmer weather could delay the spread of the virus. Home Security notes that have leaked to the Yahoo News suggested, in light of sunshine, moisture, and warmer temperatures, that the virus will not last long.
According to Yahoo News, “Sunlight easily kills the virus.” The study cautions, however, that the findings do not indicate that new cases of the virus are eliminated or reduced in summer.
Chinese research facilities have been aware of these risks, according to the South China Morning Post, and laboratory staff takes special caution, for example with a full hazmat suit.
The research has not been reviewed or published by peer reviewers in a scientific journal yet, according to Newsweek, and it should, therefore, be dismissed.
